About This Center

The Dean Domingues Compost Facility, part of the Public Works Department of Lafayette Consolidated Government, is located at 400 Dugas Road in north Lafayette Parish. This facility specializes in composting green waste such as tree branches, grass, and shrub trimmings to create a nutrient-rich soil additive. Citizens can benefit from this program by picking up free compost, contributing to stable garbage disposal rates, and reducing landfill waste. It's important to note that only green waste is accepted; no processed wood, lumber, or trash other than tree waste is permitted. Additionally, root balls from trees cannot be accepted due to their large quantities of roots and compacted dirt. Residents bringing yard waste are charged $6.00 per cubic yard, and the facility is open for drop-offs and compost pick-ups on weekdays and Saturdays. Machinery is available to load pickup trucks and trailers, but vehicles with an enclosed back require citizens to load the compost themselves. Just drive-thru and the nice guy on his forklift just dumps the compost in your trailer or truck. Give him a thumbs up when you got enough.... My flower beds look wonderful now thanks to the free compost.

Parish wide tree limbs leaves and other biodegradable waste goes to excellent mulch instead of a landfill or burned. The guys working there are polite and professional in operating the loaders. It's allowed me to grow the best vegetable garden I've ever had. I've given a variety of veggies to our friends and will continue to do so.

Joseph “Joey” Benoit (5/5 stars, 5 years ago): Free compost when available and it's cheap to drop off debris; $6 per yard. Do not drop of any yard waste with rocks in it or trash of any kind. It can damage the compost machine get you banned and trash can end up in the compost.
